5 Underrated SEO Lessons [Video]

Five underrated SEO lessons. I’ve been doing SEO for a very long time. I started when I was 15, I’m 37, that’s 22 years to be exact. And I know there are a lot of stats and data out there about SEO and what works and what doesn’t, but in today’s video, I’m not going to bore you with all that. Instead, I want to share my personal experiences, and I want to tell you what I’ve learned over the years and what you can take from it to do better. Most of these lessons aren’t common and you probably haven’t heard of them before. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________Lesson number one, updating content frequently is better than building more links. I know you need links to rank. So if you have no links, go out there and build some. We found that if you build less links but you update your content more frequently, you do way better when it comes to a SEO perspective. And when I mean updating, I’m not talking about word or two or image or here and there, I’m talking about adjusting that page to be the best for your users and whatever that takes, better than your competition in other words. So spend more time updating the building links especially if you’re a established website. If you’re a new website, there won’t be much content on your website, you probably don’t have many links, focus on building more links. Lesson number two, shortcuts just aren’t worth it. See, the sites that rank at the top in the long run are the ones that provide the most value, not the ones that cheat their way up to the top. Now I’ve learned a lot from this mistake and others but I had a shortcut mentality when I was young, and if I had to go back in time, I would stop taking shortcuts and I would’ve done what’s best for users, which would’ve been what’s best for my career. Lesson three, it’s easier for brands to rank. One of the things that’s taught me is brand queries go a long way in Google’s eyes and in their algo. The more people searching for your brand, and assuming a high percentage of them click on your result, it tells Google that you have a good, strong brand. And, if your brand is more popular than your competition, it tells Google that people prefer you over the competition. And as your brand queries keep going up, what you’ll find is, your rankings also go up. Once I learned that, I focused more on building a brand. It takes well over five years to build a brand, so you need to be patient, but it helps a lot with SEO. Lesson four, the quickest way to grow your SEO traffic is by going global. A Google employee once told me that the majority of searches on Google aren’t in English. That’s obvious, right? And it was to me at the time, I’m like, “Yeah, the majority of the world doesn’t speak English, what’s new with this.” But what she told me next wasn’t as obvious. She’s like, “Yes, Neil, they don’t speak English, the majority of searches aren’t in English, but Google doesn’t have enough webpages and all these other languages for most topics.” Once that clicked, I was like, “Oh wait, I need to transcribe my content into multiple languages.” So I started doing that and I didn’t say translating, I said transcribe. The reason why is you have to adapt it for the local languages. Now, the United States only makes up 25% or less of my traffic due to international expansion. You should go global if you want more SEO traffic. Lesson five, don’t purely rely on SEO. I used to believe that SEO was the best marketing channel. And because of that, I focused purely on SEO at the beginning. Funny enough, I still prefer SEO over other channels but I don’t think it is the best marketing channel, I don’t think any marketing channel is the best. I now take a different viewpoint. All marketing channels are great as long as you can make them work for you and drive you traffic, brand awareness, leads, and even sales. So I don’t not focus on SEO, but I also don’t purely focus on SEO. I focus on all marketing channels as well as new ones that come up as long as I can make them work. And if any of them get crushed by platforms making an algorithm update, I don’t have to worry because my traffic sources are diversified. A Minimalist’s Approach to SEO: The Only 3 Things You Should do Every Week To Get Traffic [Video]

There are over 200 factors in Google’s algorithm. Wouldn’t it be great if you could rank higher on Google without learning each of those factors? Today I’m going to break down a minimalist approach to SEO. The only three things you should do every week to get traffic.RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________If you’re overwhelmed and don’t have lots of time to invest, it’s important to know where to focus your efforts. Sure, it would be great to do everything, but that’s not always realistic. And instead of doing everything that you read online about SEO, let’s see the activities that will produce the most impact on your business. So number one, optimizing existing content. Now optimizing existing content is all about finding new keywords, sitting on page two and three and optimizing for them. What you also want to end up doing is going to Google Search Console, and then looking to see which pages are getting the most impressions, but the least amount of clicks. And within there, you want to click on those pages and look to see which keywords are getting a lot of impressions that are on page two or bottom of page one that you may not be talking about too much within your content. And then what you want to do is update the content to include those keywords. You may also want to include those keywords within your title tag and your meta description. The next thing when it comes to updating content is deleting your underperforming content. See, just because you write content and you generate a lot of links to it, it doesn’t mean that it’s a good piece of content. It doesn’t mean that it’s going to rank. It doesn’t mean that it’s going to get social shares. Just some content, even though people link to it, they just don’t care to read about it. And that’s the harsh reality of content marketing. The next thing when it comes to updating content is consolidating content. When we’re also talking about updating content, I also want to discuss refreshing content that brings traffic to your website. There’s a lot of content that is already doing well and is generating traffic on your site. But what you’ll find is when you log to Google Search Console, some of these articles will drop in traffic over time, or they’ll continually rise. Also, if your article’s continually doing well, what are the cures that are driving you this increase in traffic? What could you do to even make it more related to those cures and better so that way you can get even more traffic? Now, the next tactic that I want you to focus on is doing competitive analysis to guide your content efforts. Here’s what I mean by this, right? So we already discussed updating content. Now, when we’re talking about competitive analysis. So what I want you to do is head over to Ubersuggest, and I want you to type in your domain. Now, when you type in your domain, you’ll get a report of your top pages, your traffic, the keywords you’re ranking for, but you’ll also see in the left hand navigation, an option to look at competing domains. So you want to end up looking at all the other sites that are similar to you. And what this Ubersuggest report does is it shows you all the similar keywords that you rank for, that other people also rank for. And it also shows you the keyword gaps. This report breaks down their most popular pages from top to bottom. It shows you who’s linking to them and it shows you those keywords that each of those top pages are ranking for. This will also give you new content ideas in case you don’t cover any of the topics that they’re generating a lot of traffic for that you’re not generating any traffic for. And this will give you ideas of what type of content to create. Now let’s talk about creating new content. Content clusters around keywords that your website has the potential to rank for. That’s what I mean. So if you go back to Ubersuggest, you type in a keyword, let’s say I go after SEO. In Ubersuggest in the keyword ideas report, there’s actually an option where you can actually put in your domain name and it’ll adjust the keywords that you have the ability to rank for. So once you put in your domain name, Ubersuggest will then filter the results. So you want keywords you can rank for that are going to be much easier and those are the ones that you should start creating content around and create content clusters. How Al is Changing Marketing and SEO (And How to Use it In Your Business) [Video]

Wouldn’t it be cool if AI did your marketing for you? Well, now it can. Today, I’m going to break down how AI is changing marketing and SEO. Look, technology has made marketing easy. Today, I want to share some of those tools that can make your life easier, and also talk about the future of AI in marketing.RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Morphio.ai: https://morphio.ai/Marketbrew: https://www.marketbrew.com/Jarvis.ai: https://www.jarvis.ai/Clearscope: https://www.clearscope.io/Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________So let’s go over some of the tools first. Tool number one, Morphio.ai. It’s a monitor and analysis tool that uses AI. It’ll tell you when something is wrong with your paid ad budgets. This is super important because look, as an SMB or even an enterprise company, you all have budget. You don’t want something to go over. So let’s say you’re spending all this money on advertising, and you’re having people help you out. If you’re testing out a thousand different places or a hundred, I know I’m going to the extreme, if ones aren’t working out, you don’t want to keep spending money. Even if your whole campaign is profitable, but there’s certain parts of the campaign that aren’t profitable. But the ones that are profitable are picking them up. You want to stop the underperforming ones so you can spend more money on the placements that are performing. That way, you’d make even more profit. So check out that tool. Tool number two, marketbrew. It’s an automated SEO AI tool, and here’s what I mean by this: It’s a search engine that can calibrate itself to be like any search engine that you want it to be. So it’s definitely worth checking out cause it’ll help you avoid some of the mistakes. Now grant it, it’s not going to be identical to Google’s algorithm cause they make roughly eight plus changes a day. But, it’ll give you a a good idea of what’s going to work and what’s not going to work. Tool number three, Jarvis.ai. Content creation tools, especially ones that are using AI, are not perfect. But, they do save you a lot of time. What if, tools helps with your titles, your outlines, and even paragraphs, and you just have to go in and put some keywords. It’ll help set up all this content for you, and then you just had to go in and make it better. That’s what Jarvis.ai does. It’ll give you a head start, and it can save you, sometimes, half the time when it comes to creating content which is huge. Especially if you hate writing content. Tool number four, clearscope. This will help you get more traffic from your writing. And that’s cause clearscope helps you produce content that’s highly relevant to what people are searching for. It helps you determine, what topics you should focus on, as well as the writing aspect of your content creation. Such as headings, keywords that you should use within your content to also get the most traffic. Cause remember, if you use tools like Ubersuggest to do your keyword research which you should, it’s not just about those head terms. That’s when Ubersuggest we have those keyword ideas cause there’s all these other longed out keywords that you need to use as well. Now that we covered some tools that you should try, here’s where marketing and AI is going in the future. With SEO, people like me at Ubersuggest, we have teams of people working on AI machine learning where you can put java script on your website, and it just does all your SEO for you. So you don’t have to end up changing any aspect of your on page code and the tool will do it for you. We’re even trying to use machine learning and we’re running experiments on our end to figure out if we can even matching build links to do the outreach for you, all automated as if it was humans, and actually get you linked without having a human do it. And with marketing, you’re going to see AI integrated into all forms of marketing. Now it doesn’t mean that all the AI is going to replace humans cause humans can do a lot of creative thinking and is yet to be seen if AI can do the same type of creative skills. Especially when it comes to marketing campaigns. But, it can make it worth more efficient and you don’t need as many people to get the same job done. A Realistic Approach to SEO For Busy Solo Entrepreneurs [Video]

SEO’s tough and usually requires a big team. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to do SEO, when you’re a solo entrepreneur? Look, there is. Today I’m going to break down a realistic approach to SEO for busy solo entrepreneurs.RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________If you don’t have a big team or any team for that matter of fact, I want you to focus just on two things. Number one, optimizing existing content and number two, creating new content. So let’s go over optimizing existing content first. First, use the Google search console. Google search console will show you, Hey, what content is getting impressions and which content is getting clicks and also shows your click-through rate. And I want you to improve your click-through rate and the way you end up doing that is look at the keywords that are sitting on page two. Are those keywords in your title tag? Are they within your meta description? Is your title tag and meta-description, you know, very relevant from an appealing perspective. Think of copywriting. The next thing I like doing is putting in the keywords that you’re seeing in Google search console within to those pages as well. So now that you just put them in your title tag and meta description, also put them within the content. Second use Ubersuggest. Ubersuggest has a rank tracking feature that you can get started for free and you can see which ones of your keywords are getting more traction and less traction over time. It’ll tell you which keywords are getting more traction on mobile or even desktop device, or even in certain regions. Another feature I want you to use in Ubersuggest is a content ideas report. This shows you all the other people that have content around similar keywords, like your competitors, and really make sure you there are social shares and the backlinks and the headlines that they’re using. Third, use Google analytics. I want you to improve your dwell time. I want you to identify the content pieces that are underperforming and consolidate them with the pages that are doing well on the same topic. Now let’s go over creating new content. First, let’s find keyword opportunities that you can rank for. Go to Ubersuggest, use a keyword ideas report, you can find in the left-hand navigation, and type in keywords related to your space. Then I want you to go to the competitive analysis report in Ubersuggest. This is where you can put it in a competitor URL. It’ll show you their top pages by traffic show you the social shares for those pages and it’ll even show you all the keywords that the competitor’s page ranks for. And then you can go over to their site and look at that page and be like, whoa, this is the content that they have. I can create something way better than this.Second, let’s analyze your competitors for new keywords you want to target. You’ll see a report within Ubersuggest in the competitive analysis that just shows you all the keywords your competitors rank for.The next feature in Ubersuggest you should check out is the SERP analysis within the keyword ideas report. And this will give you an idea of, Hey, this is how I create content that covers the whole topic. Now that we’re going away from Ubersuggest what I want you to also focus on is writing content that is at least 50% better than everyone else who’s ranking for that keyword. Now last but not least, I want to wrap up this video by covering a few other things that you should know. On-page SEO will produce better outcomes if you’re managing an older website. In the early days, you could pretty much solve your on-page SEO by just decreasing your load time. And as you create new content, you want to work on your title tags, meta-description tags, heading tags, which just helps you rank. You want to have a site map. And make sure that your robots are at TXT or your meta-tags, you’re not blocking any of the major crawlers or any pages that you shouldn’t be blocking. And when it comes to creating content, you should be spending two to eight hours per week, depending on how competitive your niche is and how amazing your content needs to be in order to outperform your competition. If your site’s really big, you could actually spend a lot of time on on-page SEO and it could be a daily thing. You may have people full-time focused on it. 10 EASY SEO IDEAS That Will BLOW UP Your Traffic in 2021 [Video]

SEO doesn’t have to be hard. There are simple ways to grow your traffic. Today, I’m going to break down 10 easy SEO ideas that’ll blow up your traffic in 2021. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________3 SEO Trends in Automation for 2021 (Trend #3 Is Coming Sooner Than You Think): https://youtu.be/Dv-44E0lPogThe Biggest Impact on SEO: https://youtu.be/DKPT6vaWcWkUbersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________Number one, combine pages around the same topics. Here’s what people don’t know. If you have two pages that are on link building and they cover pretty much the same exact thing, Google won’t know which page to rank. Sometimes if you’re lucky, you can get both of them to rank, but in many cases, they’ll go back and forth, it confuses Google. So what you’re better off doing is combining the pages, combine the content, having one more detailed page, and then you should get higher rankings. If you don’t know which page has more authority, you can just put in your URL into Ubersuggest and then in the backlinks report, it’ll show you which one has more links and more authority. Number two, delete underperforming pages. It’s better to have a handful of pages that drives a ton of traffic than having a site with a million pages that drive very little to no traffic. Number three, search for the keywords that you’re trying to rank for or already rank for on Google. Look at the Google ads. If you look at the Google ads, that’ll give you ideas for your title tags. See people used to believe that if you want to rank at the top, it’s all about keywords in your title tag and your meta description.Number four, create infographics from articles that have high social share counts. So you can use Ubersuggest. It has a content ideas report. Anytime you put a keyword into Ubersuggest, it tells you, “Hey, here’s all the traffic for this keyword,” but in the left-hand navigation, there’s this content ideas report. If you click on that, it’ll tell you all the blog posts around the web that are popular, based on social shares, search traffic, backlinks. Number five, create video content on your top performing content pieces. Look, yes, Google is the most popular search engine, but what most people don’t know YouTube is the second most popular search engine. So take your best performing articles and create videos like I’m doing here and pop them up on YouTube. Number six, send link juice to pages that are sitting on page two or three of the SERPs. So on Ubersuggest, you can track your rankings and it’ll show you, for your website, what keywords you’re ranking for, what page you are and what position. Look at all the ones that are on page two and page three, positions 11 through 20 or 11 through 30, and what I want you to do is see if you can link to those pages from other relevant pages within your site. That’s called internal linking. Number seven, create “Best” related articles. Here’s what I mean by “Best” related articles. Anytime you do a search for like toaster ovens or tools, or SEO tools or credit cards, you always see like the best 10 credit cards. the best 10 toaster ovens, the best 10 toaster tools, the best 47 SEO tools, and the list goes on and on.Number eight, implement AMP pages. So AMP is a form of accelerated mobile pages and what it does is it just makes your content load faster for mobile devices. I’ve implemented AMP on my site and what I’ve found is in the United States, in certain regions, it doesn’t really do much for my traffic, but in regions like Brazil, where I have my content translated, I found that adding AMP helped me get more traffic. Number nine, use structured markup. This will help increase your chances of getting SERP snippets. You know whenever you search for something and then you see a little blurb at the top and Google’s just pulling from it, that’s an example of SERP snippets. Number 10, leverage backlink opportunities on Ubersuggest. Because if someone’s willing to link to three, four of your competitors, the chances are, if you hit them up, they’ll be willing to link to you as well, versus trying to hit up all these sites that don’t link to any of your competitors, and when you hit those people up, they’re going to be like, “Hey, why do I want to link to you? Again, if someone links to three or four of your competitors, the chances are they’ll link to you and this Ubersuggest backlinks opportunity report shows you all the opportunities for you to easily get links. The Easiest Way to Get More SEO Traffic [Video]

What if there was a easier way to get SEO traffic to your website than writing thousands and thousands of articles? Today I’m going to break down the easiest way to get SEO traffic.RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________As you can see on my screen here, I’m logged into my Google Search Console. And I want to show you something really interesting. If I click the NEW button so I can filter more, I can go to Search appearance, then click on Videos. This is going to show me how much traffic I’m getting from things like videos, right, because I filtered down.So over the years, I figure that, hey, I need to stop producing just content to get quote-unquote traffic. I need to get more relevant traffic because I don’t really help people with Instagram marketing from a business standpoint, but my ad agency NP Digital does help with things like SEO tools or growth hacking. So we started focusing on videos that don’t just bring traffic, but bring quote-unquote our ideal customer. Nonetheless, as you can see here, I’ve gotten quite a bit of clicks from Google just from video SEO. And I also have Ubersuggest, so that helps with that. “How to Track and Improve Your Rankings.” Again, doesn’t have the volume that, let’s say, Instagram followers has, but it can bring the ideal customers. That can help me generate more sales and more revenue for my ad agency. But the key is I don’t just publish my content on YouTube. I’m also publishing it on my own website, and it’s driving a lot of traffic. I have content on WordPress, daily SEO tasks. I even have reels that I’ve been testing on YouTube, or shorts as they would call it on YouTube. Instagram’s more reels. And I just produce tons of video content each and every single week. And I don’t really do much to optimize it, right? I’m using all the code. I’m just making sure how’s my site, how’s all the schema markup, stuff like that. Lets Google know what type of content I’m using. But the point I’m trying to make is just go and create video content and publish it on your blog. It’s not that competitive. You can rank for a lot of stuff because what Google’s doing is they’re including it in the results, so not only do you have a chance of ranking for text, but, hey, there’s not as many people creating videos, so it’s not as competitive. And what I would recommend that you do is do your keyword research. So if you go to app.neilpatel.com, and you’re just like, “All right, I’m in the digital marketing space.” So you can go load up the Ubersuggest tool, which you can find at app.neilpatel.com, and you can type in keywords related to anything. So I can type in digital marketing. And once you type in keywords like this, you’ll see the search volume. Don’t worry about the SEO difficulty or the CPC. Typically, though, the higher the CPC, the more lucrative that term is going to be. And go create content all these popular terms. You can even create a video on digital marketing agency, digital marketing jobs, digital marketing company. So in essence, what you want to do is you want to view all the keyword ideas, continually find more and more keywords that have good volume and high CPC. So digital marketing agency, way higher CPC than a lot of the other keywords here, which is great. And once you find the keywords that you like, you can just keep track of ’em. So I would add agency, company, digital marketing company, let’s see, services, strategy, courses. I would add those to a list. So in Ubersuggest, you can add it to a list. And I can create a list. Let’s go create a new one. So I can create one on YouTube video ideas. I click plus. And now those keywords are going to be added to this keyword list than I can get in the left-hand navigation side. So then I can keep track of all the keywords that I need to go and create a YouTube video on. And if you just leverage this simple strategy over time, you can keep getting more and more traffic. So it’s not just about going after volume. You want to go after volume with high CPCs that are related to your business. And don’t forget the related to your business part because if you do that, then you’ll get the views of the right audience and convert them into customers.
