The Local Vibe: What makes the farmers market unique at Winston-Salem Fairgrounds [Video]

The Farmers Market at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds is Forsyth Countys longest-running source for locally raised fruits, vegetables and proteins. It started in 1974 and has welcomed the community to shop for food, flowers, handmade baskets, cakes & pies, fresh baked breads, jams & jellies, honey, crafts and much more. With the cold weather the Triad has been experiencing in the month of January, local vendors are expressing the need for more foot traffic. Lilil Craven, the Marketing and Branding Manager for the city of Winston-Salem joined the Local Vibe team to talk about what makes the market unique. People dont realize we are year round, vendors also come and go with the seasonal products they offer. We are trying to get the word out we are year round and that we are open even during the colder months. The building gets a little drafty, so you have to come dressed in your winter best, but the vendors want to welcome new customers and see their regulars, Craven stated. There is a variety of products offered throughout each season as well. Craven said, We always have seasonal produce, salad mixes, micro greens, we always have meats that farmers bring in. We have local craft vendors and homemade bread, a little bit of everything. From produce to crafts, a lot of variety.Click the video player to watch the full segment with Craven and learn about all the local products offered. The Fairgrounds Farmers Market Now Accepts SNAP EBT Cards. It is open every Saturday on the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds 6 a.m. to Noon. Organizers ask the public to enter through the parking area off of 27th Street.Click here to view the list of the market vendors.
