Elk Grove – Sacramento Zoo: Name chosen for zoo’s move to Elk Grove [Video]

The zoo’s design phase could be completed by 2026, with construction anticipated to begin in 2027.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — With a new home ahead, the Sacramento Zoo will also have a new name to match.

When the doors open for the new zoo, it’ll be called the Elk Grove – Sacramento Zoo. It was the second name brought before the city council for a vote. Elk Grove City Council revisited the initial proposal of “The Greater Sacramento Zoo at Elk Grove” to make the city’s name more prominent.

The name Elk Grove – Sacramento Zoo was recommended after taking into consideration multiple factors, such as Elk Grove’s financial contribution and the zoo’s location in the city but also the zoo’s legacy and history in the region. It also helps preserve the zoo’s brand identity.
