Session Description: Students are inundated daily with information via email and social media, and they are likely to pay attention to marketing communications that align with their values or creates authentic connection. Branding can be a powerful, effective way to develop a consistent message about the value of international education; we can consistently engage current and prospective students, as well as send signals to underrepresented groups that international opportunities are also meant for them. This session will showcase Canva–a free graphic design website for those who are not graphic designers or those without a formal marketing background to 1) discuss basic branding rules and guidelines; 2) showcase how to apply branding messages to all Canva templates for different marketing purposes; and 3) create a branding toolkit and use it to create marketing for an education abroad fair. If you are looking for ways to liven up your your graphic and visual media content and engage students without spending hours designing from scratch, this is the session for you.
Session Presenters: Asinda Sirignano, U-M’s Office of the Provost, & Katie Wiggins-Gawlik, U-M’s School of Business
