The Way Back – Miles Welch and Michael King | The Level Up Leader | Teams.Coach [Video]

Steve Jobs was fired from his own company; Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison, and Abraham Lincoln failed in business, had a nervous breakdown, and was defeated in eight elections. They all went on to experience tremendous success. As an Executive Coach, I have a legitimate soft spot for a leader that has experienced rock bottom and has embraced honesty. As a society, we tend to move on too quickly from someone who has experienced failure.  I am a little different.  There is something so powerful about the next chapter of a leader that knows where they went wrong in the first place and does the work to ensure it doesn’t happen again. I want to be a part of that story. On today’s episode, I am joined by Miles Welch. Miles Welch is a leadership coach with amazing experience in business and church. I have been Miles’ coach for nearly 2 years and have seen him triple the size of his business and income over the time I have worked with him.  More importantly, I have seen Miles’ life transform and witnessed the effect of that transformation on the leaders he serves.Everyone, please welcome Miles Welch to The Level-Up Leader podcast. Miles shares a story about waking up and writing on the whiteboard, “DO WHAT YOU CAN DO.”I like the simplicity of this but also its bold transparency. So often, it’s easy for us to get distracted and only focus on the things that we can’t do.  Miles also stated that if we focus on what we can do, the can-do grows.  Take some time and jot down your Can DO list.  Let’s allow this to get our focus today. Also, share your thoughts on today’s episode in the Level Up Leader Group on Facebook.  Miles would love to see you there.A special thank you to our featured Artist, Names Without Numbers, for allowing us to use their music.  We decided we wanted to feature music that I produced as a music producer..so that’s pretty cool.  To find out more about everything we’re up to, check us out at Teams.Coach, and don’t forget to join our Facebook group at Teams.Coach/LevelUpLeaders/Source:https://www.forbes.com/sites/keldjensen/2012/08/08/rock-bottom-how-great-leaders-triumph-over-failure/?sh=33c113c16c38Where to find Miles:https://www.facebook.com/mileswelchcoaching/To learn more about the podcast, please visit:🌐 Check Out Our Virtual Programs – https://www.teams.coach/virtual-programs👉 Read About Teams.Coach – https://www.teams.coach/about📩 Join Our Facebook Group – https://www.facebook.com/groups/levelupleader🎧 LevelUp Leader Podcast – https://www.teams.coach/podcastConnect with us:✔️Teams.Coach Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/teamscoach💯LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelkingjr75/📸Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/teams.coach/🔵Twitter: https://twitter.com/MICHAELKINGJR

Laurie Tarpey ’81, Executive Coach & Consultant , shares that according to Harvard Business Review, while technical skills are important, emotional intelligence is twice as important for success at all levels in the workplace. And at the top tier, emotional intelligence accounts for 90% of the difference between average and star performers. Complexities of Family-Owned Businesses With Eva Wathén [Video]

Today we are joined by Eva Wathén, who works with family-owned businesses to help them navigate the inherent complexities and form a united company. Her firm works to create a solid organizational culture. Eva discusses techniques her team uses to support evolving businesses and provides examples of when a family-owned business may bring in a third party to help with strategy. She encourages companies to look at the values, vision, and past and future legacy. Tune in today to learn how to move your company forward with solid momentum. IN THIS EPISODE[1:48] Eva explains why she is crazy about “Organizational Culture.”[3:16] What a healthy versus unhealthy family business culture looks like.[6:12] What tools and techniques does Eva use to help businesses change their ways in order to succeed?[8:06] What does it look like to view the family separately from the business, and how to identify where they intersect?[10:05] How to deal with love, money, and power – how does this affect family businesses? [11:23] When would a family system model be used instead of bringing in a third person?[13:03] Eva describes the type of situation she would be brought in for. [18:23] Eva tells us about her experience in her own family business. [20:24] Eva shares the findings she gathered in her last dissertation about family businesses. KEY TAKEAWAYS There are four areas to look at in a business to ensure success—the first being the direction and mission of the company. Make sure clear values are in place. Improve involvement from all employees by getting them excited and defining roles. Lastly, review the external focus, customers, and partners. Determine the legacy and the direction of the business. Uncovering why the business exists will help the next generation feel connected. To do this, the company often needs to review the mission when the business was created and how that can be continued moving forward. A family business is all about continuity. Problems usually arise when continuity is challenged. This is why values are so important.RESOURCES:Beyond the Balance Sheet Website – https://oconnorpg.com/podcasts/Bravemotion Website – https://www.bravemotion.fi/en/BIO:Eva Wathén is the co-founder of Bravemotion Oy and a third generation family business owner/board member and adviser (ACFBA, FFI).
