Amazon’s Algorithm’s job is to provide the customer with the most RELEVANT product what they searched for. In general, we are a lazy species. So for a customer to purchase a product and then come back and leave a review (positive or negative), is a big deal. So the Amazon Algorithm looks at customer reviews to help determine relevancy. OK so now we know that getting book reviews is important to the customer and the amazon algorithm.
