New Dominion Bookshop will present a book launch, reading and signing with author and National Book Award finalist Amber McBride at 4 p.m. Saturday.
She will read from her debut poetry collection for adults, “Thick with Trouble,” which Penguin will release this month. The book is about Black womanhood in the American South. Steeped in the Hoodoo spiritual tradition, the collection is organized through reimagined tarot cards. McBride is a professor of English at the University of Virginia and an avid practitioner of Hoodoo.

Revalation Vineyards will have a book launch for “The Red Flag Dating Club,” a new romantic comedy series by local author Andi Cumbo, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
