Meta is helping parents control their children’s social media usage by introducing additional Instagram teen account protections.
These new restrictions include prohibiting teens under 16 from using Instagram Live unless they receive consent from their parents. That same age group will also require parental approval to turn off features that blur images containing suspected nudity in direct messages.
Meta said these updates will be available in the next few months and extended to other Meta applications, including Facebook and Messenger.
Australia, Canada, the U.K., and the U.S. will be the first markets where the new restrictions will take effect, with other regions to follow later.
Meta introduced Instagram teen accounts in 2024, and the company said that since then, 97% of teens between 13 and 15 have kept their restrictions on.
