Leading Through Loss [Video]

Leading Through Loss

Leading through loss is one of the hardest things you will do as a leader. The first time I lost a team member I was caught off guard, it was not one of the leadership challenges I had prepared for. I found myself disregarding all of the ‘be the consummate professional’ advice I had always received, and I led straight from my heart. Informing everyone about what had happened through tears, taking food to his wife and young children, and doing whatever I could think of to be of support. My gut and my heart took over.

This is a tough subject to talk about, but it is so important that we do. Our teams look to us. How do you want to show up in their time of need?

Here are my thoughts.

I hope that in the unfortunate circumstances that find yourself leading through loss, this comes in handy.
