Exploring Golborne South Railway Station – closed disused abandoned – Warrington Wigan Newton WCML

Golborne South was a station open between 1839 and 1961 which was on the West Coast mainline.

It served the small coal mining town of Golborne and had local services between Wigan and Newton le Willows / Warrington. It originally opened as Golborne Gates but was known simply as Golborne between 1847 and 1949.

Nothing survives of the actual station but it’s site can be easily identified. It’s large goods shed does still exist. There is an active campaign to reopen the station.
