Slogans are memorable and catchy phrases that promote a marketing campaign.
Taglines are memorable and catchy phrases that promote a brand.
Successful slogans are often promoted to a tagline, outliving the marketing campaign they were born from.
Eg Nike’s “Just Do It” was a slogan from a 1987 marketing campaign by Wieden + Kennedy. It was so successful it was adopted as the brand’s tagline.
This is why the two are incorrectly used interchangeably.
Rule of thumb:
Tagline = Brand
Slogan = Marketing Campaign
