The most important advice I give to Enneagram type Threes is to focus on being an outstanding Leader rather than an outstanding Doer. Threes tend to excel as individual contributors, but when they find themselves in leadership roles, there can be a disconnect as they try to do things through others. Threes need to make the transition from being an outstanding doer to being an outstanding leader by understanding that there are different behaviors involved in leadership, such as developing people, giving clear instructions, being patient, and effectively pushing people. This is the single thing that leads to threes being more successful in greater areas of responsibility in organizations.
