Do This Before Google’s Next Algorithm Update [Video]

Nervous about Google’s seemingly constant algorithm updates? You’re not the only one – but there’s a ton that you can do to stay ahead of the curve. 00:00 Intro01:43 Go Into Google Search Console03:34 Keep Track of Your Biggest Money PagesRESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/AnswerThePublic: https://answerthepublic.com/ Google Search Console: https://search.google.com/search-console/about ____________________________________________Do you know how many updates Google does every single year? The number might shock you. Although you typically only hear about a few major ones every year, the real number is way higher. Can you guess what it is? Well in 2020, Google made 4,500 changes to its search algorithm. Here’s a great way to stay ahead of Google’s next big algorithm update. The strategy, includes ongoing optimization into your content plan. Look, you probably already know that Google heavily factors in user experience when it comes to search rankings, but if you’re not actively updating your content on a consistent basis, you’re putting your entire website at a disadvantage for when the next update comes around. So here’s what I want you to do.Step one, go into Google Search Console. And what I want you to do is click on your site portfolio, look at your traffic, and compare year over year. You can actually compare the last 30 days to what happened in the previous year. And you can do that using their date picker. I want you to see all the pages that have decreased the most in traffic, and I want you to update those pages. Have you noticed that anytime you do a Google search, Wikipedia is continually ranking at the top? Why is that? It’s because their content is continually fresh with things like GPT-3 and all these AI tools that just make you being able to write content at the snap of your fingers, it’s easy to produce content. Everyone’s doing it. We need people to continually update their content more frequently. And when Google sees that you’re updating your content more frequently, they know it’s fresh, not outdated, that’s more likely to provide the most value to users. Now the way I recommended you to update your content is you look at the pages that decrease in their traffic the most. Those are the pages that can provide your biggest traffic gains. Because those have the most opportunity. If they lost rankings, it’s usually because they’re not as fresh as the competition or more thorough or more in depth. And you can see what keywords those pages rank for ’cause Google Search Console shows you and you can just do Google searches for those keywords to see what other people are doing that you’re not, and that’ll give you ideas on how to keep your page the most user friendly, up to date, and providing the most value. Now, the second thing I want you to do is, on a monthly basis, keep track of all your main money pages. These are the pages that are getting most the traffic to your website from Google. And I want you to keep track of, all right, here are the main pages, just spend a quick few minutes on the top 30, 40, 50 pages, shouldn’t take you more than a few hours a month and create a list of the ones that you think should be updated to provide people the most value.Even if that means that, hey, your traffic isn’t dropping. Just because your traffic isn’t dropping doesn’t mean that page shouldn’t be updated. You want to do what’s best for the user and not focus too much on Google. That’s how you stay ahead of their update. because what does Google do? You think Google cares about how many backlinks you have, or how cool your site looks? Sure these are all factors in their algorithm. What they really care for is what a user likes and what they don’t. Because even if you had a million backlinks, if users go to your website and they all bounce and click the back button ’cause they think your content sucks, Google’s not going to rank you high. Yes, there are all these SEO factors, but what they care the most about is, is the user satisfied and happy when they land on your website? If they are, over time, you rank higher. If they’re not, you don’t rank as higher. That’s why you need to continually update your content. This is KILLING Your SEO Strategy (Here’s How to Fix It) [Video]

Your website has to provide users with a high-quality experience, or they will 100% seek out a different website. Here’s how you can optimize your UX so that you can kick your SEO strategy into high gear.00:00 Intro01:13 Tip #1 | Optimize Your Page Speed02:01 Tip #2 | Optimize Your Images02:39 Tip #3 | Make Sure Your Headlines Are Perfect03:12 Tip #4 | Simplify Your Website’s Navigation03:49 Tip #5 | Improve Your Mobile Speed ExperienceRESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: neilpatel.com/ubersuggest____________________________________________If you could avoid one SEO mistake, what would it be? Now, there are tons of big no-nos when it comes to SEO. The more obvious red flags that can actually get you penalized include things like keyword stuffing, using a ton of duplicate content, buying backlinks, and things like that. But there’s one major issue I see a ton of newbies make and it’s probably not the one you think, of because when people think of SEO, they think of keywords, backlinks, meta descriptions, and things like that. The thing I see that people look over all the time that’s killing their SEO strategy is not optimizing their UX. See, search engines don’t just evaluate webpages based on the keywords you use or how many backlinks you have. Tip number one, optimize your page speed. 88.5% of visitors leave a website because of slow load time. Just imagine, you pick up your phone, you go to do a Google search, you click on a result, one second, two seconds, three seconds, still not loaded, four seconds, five seconds, six seconds, halfway loaded, seven seconds, eight seconds, nine seconds, fully loaded. That’s a long time. You’re going to leave the site. Make sure your code is clean using a CDN, which is a content delivery network, so that way your website is on servers all over the web. Tip number two, optimize your images and content. Updating and republishing old blog posts with new content and images can increase traffic by as much as 106%. According to HTTP Archive, images make up an average of 21% of a total webpage’s weight, so make sure that you’re compressing the images, not in size, I’m talking about file size, so not in dimensions, but more so file sizes of where you want to compress ’em, and when you update your content, optimize your images, make sure that they’re images on what people are looking for, you’re going to be much better off.Tip number three, make sure your headlines are perfect. 36% of SEO experts said that the headlines were the most important SEO element. David Ogilvy always used to say, “80 cents on the dollar spent on the headline.” So you got to make sure that your headline is amazing, and there’s a lot of stats out there that show this. Eight out of 10 people read a headline, two out of 10 people read the rest of your content. So you got to really focus on the headline and make it catchy. What I like doing is running A/B tests using paid ads with different headlines to figure out what people like the most.Tip number four, simplify your website’s navigation. 84.6% of web designers believe that crowded web design is the most common mistake made by small businesses, and look, simplify your navigation, simplify what’s on a page, remove unnecessary elements, it just makes things easier for people to navigate. If you’re not sure if you’re making things simpler or worse, you can always use analytics tools like Crazy Egg which shows you where people click. You can also survey ’em, and on top of that, if you want to do a lot of user testing, check out usertesting.com which can also give you more feedback.Tip number five, improve your mobile experience. Google recently reported that 60% of searches are completed on your phone. That’s a lot. How’s your mobile experience? Is it amazing, is it bad? Majority of the people that visit your website eventually, if not already, will be from mobile devices. Look at a lot of social networks that you use, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok. Where do you find them? Mobile devices. It’s super important that you optimize your site to be responsive so that way your website can expand if someone has a big desktop computer, a laptop, an iPad, a small mobile phone, or a big mobile phone, a responsive design adapts so that way it fits all these devices. The Biggest SEO Mistake I’ve Made [Video]

The biggest SEO mistake I’ve ever made. What does a national park, a war, and a casino all have in common? Well, I’ll give you a hint. It involved my biggest SEO mistake. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________Leave a comment below, letting me know what you think my biggest SEO mistake is. I gave you that hint right? Now before I break down my SEO mistake, I want to first tell you that you need to think long term. See, I was shortsighted when I first got started into the role of entrepreneurship and marketing. When I was in my early twenties, and even before that, when I was 16, 17, 18, because I started SEO when I was around 16 years old. And to give you context, now I’m 37. I want to make money fast. So fast, I look for shortcuts. And there was this one site called Battlefield Bypass which was expired domain with a lot of authoritative links. These links were naturally generated and not purchased because it was a national park site. And it was part of the award that happened on that land. So I bought it, converted it into online casino site. Within months, I was ranking the top three positions on Google for the term “online casino”. That keyword is worth hundreds and thousands of dollars a month in affiliate revenue. Not thousands, hundreds of thousands to give you perspective. That’s millions of dollars a year. That’s a lot of money, especially when you’re under 20 years old. But within months, Google whacked me! All of a sudden that site lost all of its rankings. In essence, I was trying to cheat the system by getting traffic and rankings by cheating instead of providing value. See, the sites that rank in the top in the long run are the ones that users love the most. No one that cheats their way to the top lasts forever. Just think of it this way. You don’t really care if a site at the top has a lot of back links or better on page code. You only care if that site solves your problem and ideally in a quick and affordable fashion. Now I learned a lot from this mistake, and I made tones of others as well. But I had the shortcut mentality when I was young and I was growing up. And if I could go back in time I would stop taking shortcuts. And I would be much further in my career even as an entrepreneur. That’s my big SEO mistake. If you’re struggling with SEO, and you don’t want to make all the mistakes that I’ve made, and you want to get your rankings by providing value to users and using ethical, clean tactics check out my ad agency, NP digital. Content Marketing VS SEO // Which One Drives More Traffic? [Video]

If you had to pick SEO or content marketing, and you could only pick one, which one would you choose? Today I’m going to break down content marketing versus SEO. Which one drives more traffic?RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________00:00 – Introduction00:23 – The old SEO Vs Content Marketing debate01:16 – The Beginner’s Guide To Content Marketing01:25 – Doing Content Marketing On Different Platforms02:03 – Targeting The Right Keyword and Offering Amazing Content02:31 – Writing Great Headlines And Meta Descriptions For Your Content.02:54 – Optimizing Your Content For Readability 03:09 – Structure Data03:43 – Internal Linking03:58 – User Experience Improvements04:22 – Importance Of Optimizing And Having a Good Content on Your Bottom Line. What do you think? Is it SEO? Is it content marketing? Well, you’re about to find out. A lot of people actually say, “This is a false debate since SEO and content marketing should work together.” And that’s definitely true when it comes to generating traffic on your own website. If SEO’s about optimizing pages on your website, ultimately you’ll be optimizing the pages that at least have some content, whether it’s your title, maybe a description, it doesn’t have to be a blog post. So there is truth to it in which it’s really hard to do SEO if you don’t have content. And a lot of people who watch my channel already know SEO to some degree, but with content marketing, most people don’t. So we could say that content marketing has more potential to generate traffic than SEO if you think about it in more holistically. Beyond just visitors, you could be getting views to your YouTube videos, engagement, followers, even clicks on social media channels, people listening and subscribing to your podcast, viewers in your live event. Now most of my audience is focused pretty heavily on generating traffic to their own websites. So let’s dive in to how content marketing and SEO should work together. The bottom line is your content won’t perform well unless you do SEO as well. Sure, you make it a social boost from it in the short run but if you want long-lasting traffic, you need a focus on SEO and content marketing. And of course, content marketing can drive you traffic without SEO, like YouTube, podcasts, that are all examples of content marketing but if you combine both, you’ll do even better. Advice Every Online Business Owner Should’ve Heard Before Starting SEO [Video]

SEO’s great, but before you really invest a lot into it, there’s something you should know. Today I’m going to break up advice every online business owner should hear before starting SEO. Look, SEO’s long-term. You need other traffic sources to make money before you succeed with SEO. RESOURCES & LINKS: ____________________________________________CodeCanyon: https://codecanyon.net/Ubersuggest: https://neilpatel.com/ubersuggest/____________________________________________Now, let’s go over what you need to generate sales now, which will make you cash so you can then take that cash and invest in SEO. It doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t start doing SEO right now because in the future, is one of the highest ROI marketing channels out there. But still you need to start doing stuff right now to generate those sales because you can’t wait six months, or a year, or two years depending on the keywords you’re going after to really get the results. First, you need to learn how to convert visitors into buyers. If you can’t convert visitors into buyers, then it doesn’t matter how much traffic you get. And if you can’t get your conversion rate high enough, the economics won’t work out, especially with paid advertising because the costs are continually rising, especially after COVID. You don’t really need a billion dollars for engineering when you’re a startup, but you do need it to scale your sales and marketing. And you need to have a conversion funnel with upsells and downsells. That’s how you get the most out of your revenue. The upsells and downsells, the key with that is speed and automation. And as long as you’re producing results, people gladly take you off those upsells and downsells. Second thing that you need to know. Search engines give older websites more authority and more placement. Now there’s no guarantee that if you’re older website, you have more authority in your website because you could be a brand new hot website that every wants a link to it talk about, but that’s usually not the case. Typically the older sites have much more authority. And no matter how much money you have, you can’t easily buy that age. You just have to be patient. And that’s the thing with SEO. It is super effective. The ROI is massive and that’s why we have one of the fastest 500 growing companies according to “E Magazine”, because SEO works for customers and our results are proven.Third don’t take short-term gains for long-term losses. So doing what’s best for your customers wins in the long run. Fourth, create a better mouse trap, as marketing is becoming too expensive. Look, I’m a marketer and I’m telling you, it’s just going to keep going up and up. So you’ve got to figure out a better mouse trap. And you can do some things that are very similar to sites like CodeCanyon that can help you put tools on your website, which can help you get traffic and you’d give away stuff for free, and you can buy some of these tools for 10, 20, 30, $40. They’re not going to be as good as what Zillow did or what I did, but it’s a start. And then over time you can invest more money to making it better.
