Welcome back to the channel. My name is Heather Salter-Purves. I am a queer author of dark fantasy retellings. Today’s video wanted to talk to you about the journey I took to discover my preferred genre to write and how this will help me in my author career. As I am currently self-published, I have two main goals with my books:First, I gain new readers to my books and then come to my second goal: Does this story, whether a short story novella or novel, add viable to my existing readers.I know I need to select a genre with a reader base and continue to write in it for a while. Some authors can jump around from horror to science fiction to fantasy; however, these authors have an extensive backlist and a readership that will follow them. Meaning that this is a two-fold decision being a passion- you need to choose a genre that you love and secondly build a readership that will become loyal fans that will read anything that you pen. Some these for my tips to knowing what sort of genre author you are:What books do you find yourself reading most often?Write down all the ideas you have for stories of post-it or pieces of paper. With the collection of story, ideas start sorting them into groups of best of books tropes or paint similar pictures. Once the piles are formed, which trope or ideas has the most story ideas in them, this is most likely the genre you should try to drive into first.Another thing that you might need to consider is thinking about your strengths when creating something. Are you going at research or descriptions?Links that you might be interested in:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heather.salterpurves_author/Twitter: https://twitter.com/heather_purvesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/HeatherSalterPurvesAuthor/newsletter: https://omniform1.com/signup/v1/606e862599f0b76f04f9c25c_606fa3bb4c7fa415563db487.html?fbclid=IwAR0v0ia5zLXNjNqCEj-bKVlyZzlRhBreq2Kj48SWR7ZYWOryx1H_JGXaSf0 My Books:Rippled Reflections, book one of Devil’s Bay: https://books2read.com/rippledreflections #authourube, #amwriting
